Released in 1994, this classic is still frequently regarded as one of the best sludge metal albums from its time. This album dives deep into many dark and twisted themes with excellent vocal work between singer Dax Riggs and backup singer Sammy Duet on guitar. Acid Bath’s sound on this album is inspired by doom metal, stoner rock, thrash metal, and death metal, as with most other sludge metal bands.

Acid Bath's debut is a malicious and sometimes downright disturbing album that defies easy categorization. They stitch together elements of death metal, '70s hard rock, thrashing hardcore punk and Black Sabbath-esque sludge into multi-sectioned songs that are both intricate and often surprisingly melodic. While it would have been stronger if a few of the weaker songs had been left off, When the Kite String Pops is still an excellent, diverse metal album that remains unlike much else, even years after it release.
However, Acid Bath is certainly an acquired taste. Brilliantly and beautifully dark and melodic, every song on The Kite String Pops brings something powerful to the table
However, Acid Bath is certainly an acquired taste. Brilliantly and beautifully dark and melodic, every song on The Kite String Pops brings something powerful to the table. The band's own style varies, more or less, from song to song with lighter melodies like The Bones of Baby Dolls, and Scream of the Butterfly, and then deathmetal masterpieces like The God Machine and Toubabo Koomi. All of Dax Riggs's lyrics are written by an unmistakable lyrical style that has its roots in various death metal bands, but also strangely in Leonard Cohen, T-Rex, and the Beatles. The blend of moody lyrical styles with Dax Riggs's own darkness produces something truly unique.
While it certainly wasn't the first sludge metal album, or first anything for that matter, Acid Bath's debut When The Kite String Pops is an essential, volatile mix of all things horrific and unforgiving
Metal music has been divided and separated into so many subgenres that it's become extremely difficult to keep up with what's going on in the metal world at any given time. While it certainly wasn't the first sludge metal album, or first anything for that matter, Acid Bath's debut When The Kite String Pops is an essential, volatile mix of all things horrific and unforgiving. Drawing inspiration from the sludgy riffing of Melvins and the trippy grooves of Kyuss, Acid Bath was a short-lived, albeit extremely influential sludge metal band that drew cards from many different decks when it came to creating an original, fascinating sound.
Sound - 9 The uniqe sound of Acid Bath combines doom, sludge, and thrash metal all in one. I have yet to find another band that even reminds me. .Lyrics - 10 They lyrics from acid bath are dark and 99% of them time very peverse. I have yet to find another band that even reminds me of them. Unlike a lot of metal bands, where every song sounds the same, each song is uniqe in it's own way. Some have a more fast pace sound of thrash, some are slow and heavy, and there is even an acoustic song on the album (and it is actually Very good). And Everyone that I have recomended this album to was far from dissapointed. Lyrics - 10 They lyrics from acid bath are dark and 99% of them time very peverse
