Hallelujah" is a song written by Canadian singer Leonard Cohen, originally released on his album Various Positions (1984). Achieving little initial success, the song found greater popular acclaim through a recording by John Cale, which inspired a recording by Jeff Buckley. It is considered as the "baseline" of secular hymns.

Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah. Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah.

Buckley described the song as "a hallelujah to the orgas. n ode to life and love," and his version is a dreamlike gift that guarantees a lasting legacy for the late performer.

Bono (Tower of Song: The Songs of Leonard Cohen, 1995): Dubby drum machines, faux-rap delivery and falsetto squeals, oh my. An amusingly weird, if not quite successful, attempt. In The Holy or the Broken, Bono apologizes for this sub-Zooropa bastardization ("I didn't just let myself down, or my parents, I let the whole school down"), but it's miles more fun than the thousandth American Idol run-through. Buckley described the song as "a hallelujah to the orgas.

Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen song). For other uses, see Hallelujah (disambiguation). Following his original 1984 studio-album version, Cohen performed the original song on his world tour in 1985, but live performances during his 1988 and 1993 tours almost invariably contained a quite different set of lyrics, with only the last verse being common to the two versions. Numerous singers mix lyrics from both versions, and occasionally make direct lyric changes; for example, in place of Cohen's "holy dove", Canadian-American singer Rufus Wainwright substituted "holy dark", while Canadian singer-songwriter Allison Crowe sang "holy ghost". Many versions change the lyrics, especially Christian versions that tone down all the ambiguities of the song. Your faith was strong but you needed proof You saw her bathing on the roof Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you She tied you to a kitchen chair She broke your throne and she cut your hair And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah.

How Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" Became Popular. The song largely went unnoticed for many years. One exception was Bob Dylan, who was purportedly taken with the song and would play it live on occasion. Still, it took nearly another decade before it garnered a large popular or critical audience. Before Jeff Buckley recorded his iconic version, John Cale, of Velvet Underground fame, heard Cohen's track while attending one of Cohen’s concerts at New York City’s Beacon Theater in 1990 and was inspired

Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah. Cohen reportedly once said he never married because he wasn’t brave enough

Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah. Cohen reportedly once said he never married because he wasn’t brave enough. Relationships are one of the most primal drives and, like life itself, often don’t work out quite as we intended. Leonard Cohen is the poet of brokenness, not in the gauche Christian sense of providing a fix, but in the sense of reminding us that this is what life is about.

A small collection of Leonard Cohen's classic, "Hallelujah

A small collection of Leonard Cohen's classic, "Hallelujah. Stripped down to just Cale’s voice and a piano accompaniment, this version would go on to inspire a young American singer who would help truly cement Hallelujah as a pop standard (and appear in 2001’s Shrek. wapping out the piano with a softly-picked, slightly fuzzy electrical guitar, late American singer Jeff Buckley recorded his version of Hallelujah for his first and only album, 1994’s Grace. The song is number 264 on Rolling Stone Magazine’s list of the 500 greatest songs of all time.

::->Il Testo<-::
I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty in the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you to a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Baby I have been here before
I know this room, I've walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew you.
I've seen your flag on the marble arch
Love is not a victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
There was a time when you let me know
What's really going on below
But now you never show it to me, do you?
And remember when I moved in you
The holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Maybe there’s a God above
But all I’ve ever learned from love
Was how to shoot at someone who outdrew you
It’s not a cry you can hear at night
It’s not somebody who has seen the light
It’s a cold and it’s a broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
You say I took the name in vain
I don't even know the name
But if I did, well really, what's it to you?
There's a blaze of light in every word
It doesn't matter which you heard
The holy or the broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though it all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

::->Alcune notizie<-::
1984 nell'album Various Positions.
poi diffusa raggiunge i 6:54.
utilizzati: "the fourth, the fifth, the minor fall, the major lift". The fourth, la quarta,
corrisponde al Fa (la tonalità di tutta la canzone è Do maggiore); the fifth, la quinta, al Sol;
the minor, la minore, al La minore e the major, la maggiore di nuovo al Fa.
Cover
tributo a Leonard Cohen I'm Your Fan.
Clare Bowditch, Steffen Brandt/Tina Dico (tradotta in danese), Allison Crowe, Custard, Gordon
Downie, Bob Dylan, Fred Eaglesmith, Julie Felix, Jackie Greene, Alistair Griffin, Anthony
Michael Hall, Imogen Heap, John Owen-Jones, k.d. lang, Damien Leith, Lucky Jim, Myrra Malmberg,

Murder, Willie Nelson, Patricia O'Callaghan, Prayerbabies, Hilary Scott, Bettie Serveert, Street
to Nowhere, Susanna and the Magical Orchestra, Rufus Wainwright, Wayne Whittaker e Kathryn
Williams, Myles Kennedy, Alexandra Burke, Arooj Aftab, Benjamin Soksou, Chris Botti, Yaron

Hanno interpretato la canzone in concerto: Ari Hest, Bob Dylan, Bon Jovi, Brandi Carlile, Howie
Day, Gavin DeGraw, Dave Dobbyn, The Dresden Dolls, Chris Clonts, Damien Rice, Jay Clifford, Mike
Winger, Regina Spektor, Starsailor, Donna Lynne Champlin, Alter Bridge, Sheryl Crow, Annie
Lennox, Pain of Salvation, Popa Chubby, Amy Macdonald, Michael Bolton.
